The practice of innovation is a science studied from the time the Greeks coined the word “Heuristics”.(hyu ′ris·tiks) which means the study of the mental processes involved in problem solving. IBM and GE have a 2 year course on innovation for all their graduate engineers. The Anna University at Chennai has introduced a 40 week programme on innovation in engineering colleges across the state. In order to practice innovation, it may be essential to involve an outside consultant to teach the following:
a) The tools of creativity leading to innovation.
b) To create a climate of innovation where the tools can be practiced
Outside consultants could also put in place systems and processes required to institutionalize the practice of innovation.
